England has their Queen, and America has Beyoncé. Born in Houston in September 1981, Bey wasted no time working her way towards success. Long before she was known worldwide as a Diva, she was living a life similar to many Showstopper dancers. At our Showstopper Competitions in Houston, Bey took the spotlight…and never quite left it. Now she’s a multi-platinum, award-winning recording artist, and performer. She’s won 22 Grammy Awards and is the most nominated woman in Grammy Award’s history! In 2014, she became the highest-paid black musician in history and was listed among Time’s 100 most influential people in the world for the second year in a row. Forbes ranked her as the most powerful female in entertainment on their 2015 and 2017 lists, and in 2016 she occupied the sixth place for Time’s Person of the Year.
Princess of Pop Britney Spears started out her successful career as an aspiring dancer and Showstopper competitor. After taking the ‘90s generation by storm with her hit single “…Baby One More Time” Britney went on to release eight albums, sell more than 100 million copies across the world, and even become a judge on season two of The X Factor. Britney put those Showstoppin’ skills to use in her own show, Piece of Me, at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas! In the United States, Spears remains the fourth best-selling female album artist of the Nielsen SoundScan era, as well as the best-selling female albums artist of the 2000s.
Jaime Pressly, like a lot of our #ShowstopperFam, was highly driven and trained in multiple areas. She spent 11 years training in both dance and gymnastics before she decided to start modeling. She used those dance skills and worked it in the modeling world — posing everywhere from the United States to Italy to Japan! While she still enjoys modeling, she’s also an actress, best known for playing Joy on the sitcom My Name is Earl. She’s appeared in many well-known films, as well, including Mom, Joe Dirt, I Love You, Man, Poison Ivy: The New Seduction and D.O.A: Dead or Alive. On Jaime’s trophy shelf you’re likely to find her Emmy Award, Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award (right next to her Showstopper trophies, of course!)
Former Showstopper dancer and current Showstopper host, Keltie Knight, started out her incredibly successful career as one of the world-famous Radio City Rockettes. She was a principal dancer in the Disney movie Enchanted starring Patrick Dempsey and Amy Adams. Keltie also danced professionally for the New Jersey Nets and the New York Knicks. Soon after, she became the co-host of CBS’The Insider, where she’s interviewed celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence, Miley Cyrus, and Adam Levine. She’s been featured in magazines such as Glamour, BELLO, People Magazine, Marie Claire, New York Magazine and even Italian Vogue! Now, Keltie is correspondent on Entertainment Tonight and stars in her own podcast Lady Gang!
You might recognize Keri from her award-winning role on TV’s Felicity, but before she became a star, she was a Showstopper! As a child, when Keri wasn’t performing with the Mickey Mouse Club, she danced her way across the Showstopper stage quite a few times, performing with Lisa Holtz Star Struck Dance Studio. You can catch her on The Americans, Scrubs, or Arrested Development. She’s also made her way to the big screen, starring in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Mission: Impossible III, August Rush, and many other films.
You might recognize Sophia Lucia from Lifetime’s Dance Moms, but did you know she used to dance at Showstopper? Starting her success at a young age, she’s made appearances on Dancing with the Stars, America’s Got Talent, Shake it Up, Ellen Degeneres, The X Factor and even So You Think You Can Dance! She even holds the Guinness World Record for Consecutive Pirouettes —with an impressive 55 in a row. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, she’s even the spokesmodel and designer of her own fashion line —California Kisses Dance Wear. To top it off, Sophia is now a singer who has recently released several new songs and music videos!
LeAnn Rimes began her waltz into stardom at the age of 5, dancing her way across the Showstopper stage. By age 11, LeAnn was recording her first album, All That. At age 13, she released her second album Blue, which earned her 2 Grammy’s: Best Female Country VocalPerformance and Best New Artist. Throughout her career, she’s released 10 albums and sold over forty-five million copies. After winning her first 2 Grammy’s at the age of 13, she went on to earn 3 ACM awards, 12 Billboard Music Awards, a CMA and an American Music Award. LeAnn’s motivation at such a young age, her talent, and her star power have inspired many young artists, dancers and performers across the United States.
